Heart and Souls (Presented by the WESTERN NEIGHBORHOODS PROJECT FILM CLUB & BAY AREA MOVIES) ~ 7:00 PM

  • 4 Star 2200 Clement Street San Francisco, CA, 94121 United States (map)

Join WNP Film Club on August 23, 2026 for a screening of an under-appreciated San Francisco film stacked with stars, Heart and Souls (1993).

When a tragic bus accident claims the lives of four strangers, their souls become unexpectedly tethered to Thomas Reilly (Robert Downey Jr.), the baby born at the very moment of the crash. Growing up with these invisible companions played by Charles Grodin, Alfre Woodward, Kyra Sedgwick, and Tom Sizemore, Thomas eventually learns they need his help to settle unfinished business so they can move on. The adventure that unfolds leads us through screwball mishaps, heartfelt reunions, and charming discoveries about love, forgiveness, and what it means to truly live. You won’t want to miss this peak 1990s romantic dramedy showcasing legendary character actors at their best in the pre-DotCom city.

WNP Film Club is a 4 Star Theater series brought to you by Western Neighborhoods Project, your friendly community history nonprofit, in partnership with Bay Area Movies (BAM) and CinemaSF. Join us in celebrating movies filmed on location in San Francisco, with a connection to the west side. This screening will feature an introduction by Jason Moore of BAM and WNP’s resident history nerd, who will share some background about the film and featured locations, including “then and now” comparisons with support from Tim Welsh of SF in Film. Optional Extra Credit: stick around after to unpack the movie with us and indulge your inner film nerd.

The program begins at 7:00pm on Thursday, May 28. Tickets sales support the 4 Star Theater, BAM and WNP!
