Waves of The Same Sea: The Making of Adios Ke Aloha
(A Sneak Preview of the behind-the-scenes documentary by Chris Brown showing the making of Adios Ke Aloha, Waves of the Same Sea featuring Taj Mahal, David Hidalgo, Los Cenzontles, Gary Haleamau and Sonny Lim)
Adios Ke Aloha, Waves of the Same Sea is a groundbreaking musical exploration that reconnects the long hidden ties between Mexico and Hawai’i that began in 1832 when Mexican vaqueros brought cattle wrangling, and the guitar, to Hawai’i. Led by Los Cenzontles, Taj Mahal, David Hidalgo, Gary Haleamau and Sonny Lim, this album is rich with overtones of Hawaiian slack key guitars, lap steel, and ipu gourd ringing naturally alongside Mexican harp, accordion, bajo sexto, jarana, and requinto. Spanish, Hawaiian, and English languages mix freely in reimagined versions of old and new Hawaiian, Mexican, and Afro Caribbean songs and rhythms.
Adios Ke Aloha, Waves of the Same Sea, a first-voice creative project, largely recorded live, is a joyful reflection of tradition, community, Native wisdom, and sharing.
Culture is a fabric within which we are all woven.
