Movies in the Richmond: 4 Star History and More

On January 29, 2022 at 5:00 p.m., local historian Woody LaBounty will appear at the 4 Star Theater to give an illustrated talk on Richmond District movie theater history.

Using historical photos, programs, and ads, the virtual tour will visit the long-gone Palm nickelodeon at 6th and Clement, the blockbuster-hosting Coronet on Geary Boulevard, the Egyptian-themed Alexandria, the beloved Balboa, and the newly reopened 4 Star theater, which began business as the La Bonita in 1913.

LaBounty is a researcher, writer, and co-founder of the Western Neighborhoods Project (outsidelands.org), a 23-year-old nonprofit focused on the history of western San Francisco. He was recently Vice President of Advocacy and Programs at San Francisco Heritage and writes weekly on city history at SanFranciscoStory.com
