Ruth Garbus Trio
Profound is the title of Brattleboro, Vermont, singer-songwriter Ruth Garbus' third studio album for Orindal Records. Listeners of the songwriter's deeper catalog know Garbus' work not only for its minimal melancholy but for vibrant, literate lyrics that take stock of the sludge that fills our psyches and oceans. But on Profound, Garbus is admittedly happier. She is also more self-assured in her music and her place making it. On the opening track, aptly titled, "I Think I'm Ready Now," Garbus sings, "In the pink of your surroundings you can let go of shame / The lemon drops of failure all dissolve / And the sick of sweet pretending just a veil of gauze."
Hectorine
Hectorine’s Sarah Gagnon calls up the spirit of the ancient Sumerian warrior goddess Inanna to explain the tumult that surrounded the making of Arrow of Love, her third full-length album, released in 2025 on Take a Turn Records.
In Mesopotamian myth, the goddess descends into the underworld to learn the secrets of the chthonic realm. As she passes through each of the seven gates of hell, she is forced to relinquish a piece of her queenly armor, jewels, and robes.
She arrives naked at the throne of her sister Ereshkigal, who kills her and hangs her corpse on a hook on the wall. After three days Inanna is rescued, revived, and returned to her kingdom, but she is pursued by demons who demand that someone take her place in the underworld. When she discovers that her beloved shepherd Dumuzi has not mourned her death, she sacrifices him.
Things Lucky
Things Lucky is the lofi garage pop project of Michael Finley, Margot Sease, and Paolo Hutchison Trujillo. Things Lucky writes songs about infrastructure, collapse, cracking up and hanging out. They live in San Francisco, taking cues from 60s girl groups and outsider folk art music projects from the 90s and generally like messing up as much as having fun.
