Synth News and Nada Sound present:
CINEMATIC SYNCHRONISMS: PART II - BEYOND THE SENSES

Microwave Buddha (Los Microwaves)

THE BUZZ: Legacy “synth-punk” band LOS MICROWAVES from the 1980's is revived by streaming media. A new generation of post-punk audiences and re-released vinyl has brought LOS MICROWAVES back to the stage, live and on tour.

WHAT IS HAPPENING: Los Microwaves, part of the original San Francisco punk scene, have found new audiences with their synthesizer-driven songs about life in the modern world, and beats that can still drive the dance floor crazy. A national tour favorite from 1978 thru 1983, Los Microwaves was part of an international club scene blending the vocal styles of the B52s, Gang of Four, and Patti Smith; with the driving instrumental punch of Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode, and the Residents. Retired in 1983 after 5 years of coast to coast touring, the band was sought to re-release their original Poshboy LP (Life After Breakfast) 30 years later, by the young label/distributor Dark Entries. With this, their music was in the hands of a new fan base. Invited to perform live again in 2023 as Microwave Buddha, the band has been requested to appear ever since. Once again, LOS MICROWAVES music by Microwave Buddha can be heard live at festivals and clubs, coast to coast, and beyond!

In 2023, at the request of the young band Pink Stiletto, Microwave Buddha was formed. Initially including Javelosa (as the remaining original member of both bands) and joined by drummer Greg Langston of No Alternative, Tuxedomoon, and several other reformed SF legacy bands. LX Rudis also from Tuxedomoon and the Units, joined on synthesizer. Backup vocals were covered by Scarlet Munoz, while Javelosa covered bass on synthesizer. Galanty later joined the group, at first on percussion but now as the full-time bass player. With LX Rudis only available for bay area shows, Matt Comeione of Nervous Gender Reloaded handles the second synthesizer part for touring and shows in Los Angeles. The next two years has had Microwave Buddha performing many legacy punk concerts in both northern and southern California, and in 2025 returned to the east coast as Los Microwaves (by Microwave Buddha) for a week long tour. Added to the band on lead vocals was DC based artist Anno (formerly known as Olivia Neutron John) to handle the Meg Brazill parts, and complete the bands original sound.

Diesel Dudes

Diesel Dudes was formed in Oakland, California in 2010, fusing an energetic blend of Anhalt EBM and the hardcore punk and electronic traditions of the Bay Area of California. Over the course of 16 years this dense duo has sporadically released bursts of "Sweaty, Hyper Roman Electro Punk For You to Hear While Your Body is Growing Stronger" as well as touring the world and sharing stages with legends such as D.A.F. and Devo. Described by filmmaker John Waters as "big, strong, and totally wrong" their songs are odes to vehicles, labor and the problems caused by Fathers. Every show is a spree of sweat and fury, with deep emotional wounds somehow finding their way into every set as the audience themselves transmutes pain to pleasure, and heartbreak into humor.

Pink Stiletto

Unacceptable X-treme tolerance level of 80s tonalities. When the Club Flesh movie comes on twisted and broken volume and Pink Stiletto steps into your living room out of a grey Mercedes with a broken windshield, lead by Valery K. - a socially frustrated outcast living in analogue seduction dream, ready to make you dance until morning when you say yes I liked that and continue eating your breakfast.

Pink Stiletto is an analogue synth-driven project fusing 80s new wave, Italo disco, post-punk, and early EBM aesthetics with bilingual lyrics and a seductive, magnetic edge. Fronted by Valery Kvochkova, the project channel the eccentric energy of ZE Records and Eastern Bloc disco, merging glamour, grit, and bold experimentation of European electronica.

Pink Stiletto has perfomed sold-out shows with members of The Units, Tuxedomoon, and Los Microwaves, earning praise as one of San Francisco's most exciting new acts, with a west coast tour ahead and new music in the works!

Tropisphere

Tropisphere is a cinematic synth trio corrupted by the sound of dark wave soundtracks, avant-garde electronics and subtropical rhythms. Crash landing somewhere in the hell-scape of a John Carpenter film and the early San Francisco school of experimental synth punk from the late 1970s & early 80s. Formed in Oakland, circa, 2023 with 3 members of local psych-cumbia outfit, Ritmos Tropicosmos.
