SF Short Film Festival presents:
THE HAPPINESS INTERVENTION

An unlikely group of strangers travel to a remote retreat in Iceland, one of the world's happiest countries, each hoping to discover the secret to a little happiness of their own.

THE SCHOOL PHOTOGRAPHER

With the film industry in decline, BJÖRN, a seasoned first assistant director, finds himself unemployed and adrift. To stay afloat, he takes a temporary job as a school photographer—an unfamiliar and humbling role.

Over the course of one long day, Björn’s fragile calm is tested by a string of phone calls from his mother, his teenage daughter, and his ex-wife. Each conversation pulls him further off balance, and the tension begins to seep into the portraits he takes. As his professional façade starts to crack, an unexpected encounter with a P.E. teacher at the school offers a brief moment of understanding—and a hint that change might still be possible.

THE FAMILY TREE

After the passing of his wife, Shelton is left with a family heirloom, a mysterious ancestral bonsai tree, setting off a surreal encounter that blurs the line between life, death, and memory.

ORNAMENTAL HORTICULTURE

After experiencing the wrath of the internet firsthand, an aspiring succulent influencer struggles to make her second post.

PUBERTY FOR HUMANS

Puberty for Humans is perfect for your nervous health class students as they approach their inevitable cybernetic bodily changes. In this short educational video, Linus, an insecure prepubescent teenager, learns that everything will be okay... for everyone else.

YOU COULD’VE BEEN A NURSE

When a routine dialysis session fails, Gwen finds out her mother has only days to live—but it's their mismatched expectations that creates unforeseen heartbreak.

MONKEY PARK

In the final hours of her estranged father’s visit from Taiwan, an anxious mother pushes her teenage daughter to skip the end-of-year senior track team banquet for one last meal with her grandfather.

The short film— what a perfect genre. Like the perfect snack. Or the very best poem: intensity and imagination distilled down to the most crucial and poignant of words. Short films are the quintessential starting point, and for some filmmakers, the definitive end goal.

The San Francisco International Festival of Short Films was launched in 2006. Since then SF Shorts has showcased incredible engaging independent films that are quick to make a statement, tell a story or express an idea. Recently this festival merged with the 29 year old San Francisco IndieFest, combining SF Shorts' curatorial vision with SF IndieFest's festival presentation expertise. This combined event now presents one week of the best short films from around the world at an historic San Francisco art house theater.
